NYC COMPTROLLER LIU STATEMENT ON SEC PROPOSED PAY RATIO DISCLOSURE RULE
NEW YORK, N.Y. – City Comptroller John C. Liu made the following statement in response to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission proposal that U.S. companies be required to disclose how their CEO’s paychecks compare to those of other employees:
“Inordinate pay disparity is a corporate problem that can spill over into the public realm, and increased daylight under these new rules will help curtail the problem. Bad pay practices undermine employee morale and productivity. These disclosures allow shareowners to make informed decisions about compensation and may rein in excessive corporate practices that undermine long term value and performance.”
