Statement
by Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. regarding the Panel for Education
Policy |
| “I am
shocked by today’s act of desperation by the Mayor in order
to win passage of his flawed promotion policy. His last minute removal
of Panel members is more suited to a Sopranos episode than to enacting
education policy for our public school children.
“The Panel was formed to consider citywide education policy.
Rather than go down in defeat, the Mayor chose to hijack the only
open, public process that the Education Department has. This disgraceful
maneuver not only undermines the views and opinions of parents and
the public, but it will also prove to be a hollow victory. The children
of this city deserve better than educational totalitarianism.”
