STATEMENT OF COMPTROLLER WILLIAM C. THOMPSON, JR. ON SNAPPLE DECISION

Read Snapple Court Decision

“Today’s ruling from Justice Braun is a significant victory for the people of New York. Justice Braun agreed with our position, that the people own the rights to the City’s name, and that the Mayor does not have the right to sell our name without an open, transparent, and fair process. From now on, the Mayor will have to bring his franchise and concession deals to the public, not through the back door.

“Justice Braun also upheld the Comptroller’s right to refuse to register City contracts that have failed to be appropriately certified by the Mayor and the Corporation Counsel. This important ruling upholds the checks and balances of our system of government.”
