New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement concerning the reported rise in violence against LGBT individuals in New York City:

“We must not tolerate these crimes and actively work to end such bigotry and hatred. We must condemn these acts with the same vehemence that we condemn similar acts of hate committed against ethnic and religious minorities. In the coming months and years, we must redouble our efforts to dramatically lower these troubling attacks.”
