The following is a statement issued by New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. concerning the Goldman Sachs deal:
The Goldman Sachs agreement represents an opportunity to stimulate the renewal of lower Manhattan. The commercial, residential and cultural resurgence this project can set in motion will have an impact far beyond the immediate area.
While I have concerns regarding a provision granting Goldman Sachs an opportunity to obtain even better benefits down the road, I support the proposed agreement and Goldman Sachs’ commitment to retain 8,100 jobs in lower Manhattan.
This agreement strengthens the hope of renewal and job stability for lower Manhattan and will benefit the entire City for years to come.
