New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today took part in the American Cancer Society’s new “Fabulous at 50” colon cancer awareness campaign to encourage more adults over 50 to be screened for this preventable cancer. The Society has recruited elected officials, local residents and community leaders who have made a commitment to get screened, blast emails to 50 friends and keep web logs about their colonoscopy experiences and fears.
Thompson issued the following statement at a news conference to announce the new “Fabulous at 50” campaign:
“One of the reasons I have focused on health issues is because they’re something we’re all concerned about. We all want to know that we are safe and healthy, and if there are steps we can take to ensure better health, we should take them.”
