| Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today released the following statement on Proposition One, the proposed amendment regarding the State budget process:
“Reform of the State’s budget process is long overdue. New York City, in particular, has suffered from the current process, which vests too much power in the executive branch. In the last few years, the legislature has had to resort to standoffs in order to get New York City its fair share of State aid.
“I would support a constitutional amendment regarding our State budget that would guarantee on-time passage of a balanced budget and provide for a balance of authority between the executive and legislative branches in the process. The amendment that is currently proposed does not accomplish this goal.”
