THOMPSON STATEMENT ON CITY COUNCIL SCHOOL MILK RESOLUTION |

View Comptroller Thompson’s letters on school milk
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding a resolution by the New York City Council to request that the New York City Department of Education assess the impact of its reduction in milk choices on students’ milk consumption and nutrition:
“The City Council has taken the right approach to determining whether schools are properly serving their students’ nutritional needs. The New York City Department of Education’s policy of substantially limiting milk choices unfairly prevents schools from providing an otherwise nutritious food source. While mindful that low-fat and low-calorie diets are important considerations, we have an obligation to pursue all reasonable opportunities to introduce nutritious and appropriate food selections.”
