THOMPSON STATEMENT ON QUEENS SHOOTING GRAND JURY DECISION

The following is a statement by New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. on the grand jury’s decision regarding the November 25th shooting in Jamaica, Queens:

I am pleased that District Attorney Richard Brown has moved swiftly and fairly in the pursuit of justice. The charges announced today are substantial and the penalties severe. However, there are no winners here. No one can bring Sean Bell back, and three of New York City’s Finest have been indicted. It will now be up to a jury to decide whether the November 25th shooting represented an extreme and unjustified use of force.
