New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. met with approximately 30 government and community leaders from Manhattan’s East Side over breakfast this morning at Hunter College.
Thompson, who had gathered the group together to discuss pressing issues facing the area, was primarily asked to share his views on the economy, transportation, school overcrowding, affordable housing, and the Mayor’s plans to reorganize senior centers.
“More than two thirds of the elementary schools in Community School District 2 operate beyond capacity with several schools operating at or exceeding 150 percent of capacity,” said Comptroller Thompson. “This overcrowding, coupled with a boom in residential real estate, a growing senior population, and concerns over transportation are only some of the issues that people living on Manhattan’s East Side are dealing with today. I am happy to be with you today to share my views and discuss how we can work together to address these concerns and advocate for our neighborhoods.”
