New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement concerning the national unemployment rate reaching 9.8% in September:

“It is clear that the recession has not ended, and that millions of people across the country continue to suffer the consequences.  Unfortunately, the pain of this recession will be felt for a while, and this slump will continue until job losses abate.  The recovery is bound to be weak and it will fail for some time to produce the jobs that are needed to put everyone back to work.”
