NEW YORK, NY – City Comptroller John C. Liu issued the following statement in response to questions about the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act:

“All people deserve equal protection from discrimination. New York’s Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act is a necessary and overdue extension of civil rights that will ensure that people cannot be fired or otherwise subjected to bigotry based on gender identity or expression. We are grateful to Assembly Member Richard Gottfried and State Senator Daniel Squadron for pushing forward this legislation.”
