STATEMENT BY COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR PETER THORNE ON MAYOR’S 911 CALL CENTER AUDIT COMMENTS

View in pdf

NEW YORK, NY – Peter Thorne, Communications Director for City Comptroller John C. Liu, stated the following in response to questions about comments made by the Mayor on his weekly radio show:

“The facts speak for themselves and are clearly spelled out in the 15-month long audit.  The City had a chance to respond to the findings but their answers were full of holes and lacked any real substance. The Mayor is simply attempting to confuse the public because he doesn’t have a leg to stand on with regard to this issue.  The only dishonesty was the City’s failure to acknowledge its shortcomings and its failure to accept responsibility for allowing another IT project to spin out of control. We will chalk up his name calling this morning to low blood sugar.”

Background:

Every single objection by City Hall is fully refuted in the appendix of the report which begins on page 27 (pdf link below):

Mayor Bloomberg can expect a letter from Comptroller Liu on this issue later today.
