COMPTROLLER LIU TO VISIT
SOUTH KOREA, TAIWAN
September 3-6 Trip to Promote New York City, Strengthen Ties

NEW YORK, NY – New York City Comptroller John C. Liu is scheduled to visit South Korea and Taiwan at the invitation of their respective governments, in order to promote business and investment opportunities in the City, discuss best practices, and foster greater economic and cultural ties.

“The Comptroller’s office places great emphasis on promoting economic development, and that includes fostering relationships with foreign companies and foreign investments in New York City. I am delighted to accept these invitations to visit South Korea and Taiwan,” Comptroller Liu said.

During his three days in South Korea, he is scheduled to meet with the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea and the Mayor of Seoul, among other officials. He is to deliver a speech at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and meet with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Korean International Trade Association, the National Pension Service, the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea, the Korea Investment Corporation, the Overseas Koreas Foundation, and Samsung Life Insurance. He will also visit Gyeongbok Palace.

On his one-day stay in Taiwan, he is scheduled to meet with the Vice President, give a speech at the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance, and visit the Financial Supervisory Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Finance.

As Comptroller, he has traveled to Israel, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland, and Hong Kong in order to promote New York City as a business and investment hub.

The New York Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York also have issued press releases about the upcoming trip.

Comptroller Liu will be travelling with one staffer to each country. Deputy Comptroller for Economic Development Mark T. Kim will accompany him to South Korea. Jasper Li, an administrative manager in the Comptroller’s office, will accompany him to Taiwan. Airfare and lodging are being paid for by the host governments; final costs will be calculated upon return.
