LIU STATEMENT ON ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORT ON REGRETFUL NYPD INFORMANT

View in pdf

NEW YORK, NY – City Comptroller John C. Liu released the following response to questions about yesterday’s Associated Press report on Shamiur Rahman, a 19-year-old American of Bangladeshi descent who has reportedly denounced his work as a paid informant:

“The details described in yesterday’s AP report are beyond disturbing. No one should be spied on simply because they choose to attend a study group on Islam or march in a Muslim parade. These reported tactics are un-American, do not reflect our values as New Yorkers, and risk undermining the ability of the NYPD to keep our City safe.”
