Statement Of New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer On Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Preliminary FY 2016 Budget

February 9, 2015

The Mayor’s budget plan prudently holds the line on new spending but also recognizes that there are unmet needs that can and should be addressed. That includes making sure our NYPD officers are protected by state-of-the-art equipment, improving conditions at Rikers Island, and doing more to reverse the record number of homeless people – nearly half of them children – who are today filling our shelter system.

The City’s resurgent economy is great news for our tax revenues, and I look forward to working with Mayor de Blasio to stand up for our fair share of revenue in Albany and in Washington, D.C. I will continue to monitor the budget as it evolves to make sure we are doing everything possible to build a stronger, more affordable city for all New Yorkers.
