Checkbook NYC is a first-of-its-kind online transparency tool that provides up-to-date information about the City’s finances. Checkbook NYC provides unprecedented access to view and track how New York City government spends its annual budget. All demos will be conducted by the Checkbook NYC Team; Nicole Boone and Edward Sokolowski. Future Checkbook workshops will be held quarterly. Sign up below for updates.

Getting to Know Checkbook

This session will include a broad overview of the type of data that Checkbook offers and a guided tour of the site’s functionality. We will walk through the Spending and Contracts domains; the M/WBE and Subvendor Featured Dashboards; review the various search capabilities; ways to export data and creating customized alerts.
Advanced Searches Techniques

This event will contain an overview of the Smart Search, Advanced Search, Narrow-down faceted search and data feed search mechanisms within Checkbook NYC. The objective of this session is to help you understand what type of search technique is best suited for your query. We will use sample searches and take actual user examples to understand how to refine your inquiry. We will also review how to gain insight from the contract detail pages.
NYCHA Spending and Contracts
March 16, 2023

Take a tour of the new NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) integration into Checkbook. We will take a look at NYCHA financial spending data, contract information, and vendors. We will explain the accounting hierarchy and how to track spending transactions to Responsibility Centers. The addition of this information will enable the general public, good government groups and government officials and to review how and where budgeted dollars are spent within NYCHA.
