Comptroller Scott M. Stringer Statement On Passing Of Former Governor Mario Cuomo

Mario Cuomo was an extraordinary and compassionate leader who listened to his conscience, spoke truth to power and in so doing made us all better. He gave voice to the voiceless, held fast to his moral compass and was a beacon of progressive thought and action. He never forgot his roots and honored all those whom he served, and his gift for oratory and the poetry of American life allowed him to put the hopes and dreams of strivers, the oppressed and the downtrodden into prose that will stand the test of time.

Mario Cuomo was a dedicated father and husband, a skilled statesman and an ethical public servant in the very best sense of the word.

My deepest sympathy is with the Cuomo family. New York–and America–has lost a giant.
