Comptroller Stringer Statement on Climate Action

February 5, 2019

“Trump’s nomination yesterday of David Bernhardt, a former oil lobbyist, to lead the Department of the Interior is a wake-up call for anyone who hasn’t yet grasped the severity and pace of climate change. In New York, we’re fighting back with everything we’ve got. We’ve started the process to divest New York City’s pension funds from fossil fuels, while still protecting the retirement funds of City employees, and we’re doubling our investment in sustainable, clean energy.

“I strongly support state legislation to strengthen requirements for green energy and sustainability, and I’m proud to stand behind the advocates who are up in Albany today for Climate Action Day. If we work together, at all levels of government, we can protect our planet for generations to come. As a parent to two young sons, I lose sleep at night when I think about the impact of continued inaction. We need to do everything we can to start reversing dangerous trends.”
