Comptroller Stringer Statement on Recent Anti-Semitic Hate Incidents in Brooklyn

April 23, 2018

“Around the country, people are being targeted because of who they are and what they believe. Even in New York City, hate – specifically anti-Semitic hate – is spiking. In the past year, anti-Semitic incidents rose in New York State by 90 percent, and just this week, Brooklyn experienced two horrific attacks. These are not just attacks on our communities – they’re attacks on everything this City stands for.

“Diversity is our strength. We will always be a welcoming city. The fabric that binds us together as New Yorkers is stronger than the fear these senseless attacks seek to provoke.

“With increased threats here at home and around the country, we know that now, more than ever, our communities have to come together, stand together, and fight back. There is no room for hate of any kind in New York City. We reject intolerance of all forms. That’s why today it’s so important that people of all backgrounds and all faiths stand in solidarity to fight for each other and for what’s right.”
