“The recommendation to terminate Officer Pantaleo is welcome news — if five years too late. Now this guidance should be followed and Officer Pantaleo should be fired. This long overdue and much-needed judgement is an important step in the fight for basic police accountability. I hope and pray that at long last this brings some measure of relief to the Garner family.

“However, justice delayed is justice denied.

“The Garner family and legions of tireless activists have rightfully made sure that Eric Garner’s legacy spurs real, substantive reform so that every person in every corner of our country is treated equally under the law.
