NYC Comptroller Brad Lander Announces Three New Leadership Team Members

New senior hires will lead critical accountability, oversight, and risk preparedness work for the City’s top watchdog office

New York, NY – NYC Comptroller Brad Lander announced new appointments to fill the roles of Deputy Comptroller for Audits and Deputy Comptroller for Budget, senior leadership team members who lead core responsibilities of the office tasked with oversight of city agency operations and financial practices.

Comptroller Lander also announced the office’s first-ever Chief Climate Officer, a senior level role tasked with implementing the office’s climate agenda across wide-ranging functions of the office. All three hires bring deep expertise in New York City government and in their respective fields.

Today’s new leadership members include:

  • Maura Hayes-Chaffe, Deputy Comptroller for Audits
  • Krista Olson, Deputy Comptroller for Budget
  • Louise Yeung, Chief Climate Officer

“These three women bring a depth of experience and an unwavering dedication to holding government accountable while building a more resilient city,” said Comptroller Brad Lander. “I could not be more thrilled to have such an all-star team who will stand up for our city’s fiscal health and tackle its most pressing problems so that we can get ready for the storms ahead.”

Deputy Comptroller for Audits Maura Hayes-Chaffe oversees the bureau that conducts audits and investigations into City-funded operations to bring accountability, efficiency and oversight to make government work better. Prior to joining the Comptroller’s Office, Ms. Hayes-Chaffe served as Executive Director of Audit and Compliance Services for the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services, Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Audit Services and Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Medicaid Provider Investigations and Audit at the NYC Department of Social Services.

Deputy Comptroller for Budget Krista Olson leads the team that provides independent oversight and economic analysis of New York City’s budget and financial planning. Ms. Olson spent seventeen years at NYC Health + Hospitals in various leadership capacities, culminating as Senior Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning Analysis. A finance executive with two decades of experience in the public sector, she brings a strong attention to financial management, analysis, and oversight to the Comptroller’s Office.

Chief Climate Officer Louise Yeung leads the office’s efforts to confront the climate crisis and support a just transition to a clean energy future for New York City. Ms. Yeung will work to align the office’s core functions, responsibilities, and internal operations with climate goals, including tracking the City’s progress implementing climate commitments, driving climate action and investments in the private sector, and bringing a climate justice lens to the City’s budget, balance sheet, and infrastructure. Previously, Ms. Yeung served as Director of Resiliency at the NYC Department of Transportation and Energy Vice President of Asset Management for the NYC Economic Development Corporation. She also led the Food Supply Chain Task Force to address food security as part of NYC’s COVID-19 emergency response.
