NYC Comptroller Brad Lander Statement on Passage of the NYCHA Preservation Trust

New York, NY — New York City Comptroller Brad Lander released the following statement:

“After decades of austerity, NYCHA residents need community driven, innovative options on the table to make urgently needed repairs and preserve the country’s largest ecosystem of public housing. The commitment to resident choice and involvement, along with the dire need for a concrete funding plan at the scale residents deserve, led me to support this legislation. NYCHA residents are understandably distrustful of new solutions after years of broken promises, and trust in the Trust must be earned. As Comptroller, I am committed to conducting vigorous oversight over the Trust’s operations, just as we will continue to do at NYCHA, in partnership with NYCHA residents to ensure accountability and transparency in the operations of our essential public housing resources.”
