NYC Comptroller Stringer Announces Appointment of Tyrone Stevens as New Director of Communications
(New York, NY) — New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer today announced the appointment of Tyrone Stevens, former Deputy Communications Director for New York City under Governor Andrew Cuomo, as his new Director of Communications. Prior to working for Governor Cuomo, Mr. Stevens was Comptroller Stringer’s Press Secretary.
Today’s announcement follows the hiring of Hazel Crampton-Hays as Comptroller Stringer’s Press Secretary. Ms. Crampton-Hays previously served as First Deputy Press Secretary for Governor Cuomo.
“To have open and honest government means we must communicate effectively – and with full transparency. Tyrone’s broad experience will enhance our efforts to meet this standard and communicate with New Yorkers in creative ways. I’m so pleased to announce his appointment and to welcome him back to the Comptroller’s office,” said New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer.
As Director of Communications, Mr. Stevens will be responsible for overseeing both day-to-day media operations as well as long-term planning and messaging. He will be responsible for driving media outreach campaigns from the Comptroller’s Office to communities throughout New York City, working with stakeholders in all five boroughs to improve City services.
Mr. Stevens served in Governor Cuomo’s office for the last year, acting as the chief spokesman on a wide range of critical issues to New York City and State, including cannabis and housing.
Prior to his time in the Governor’s office, Mr. Stevens served as Press Secretary for Comptroller Stringer. He had previously served as Communications Director for then State Senator Adriano Espaillat’s successful 2016 congressional campaign, as well as Communications Director for New York City Councilman Mark Levine.
This week will be Mr. Stevens’ first week back at the Comptroller’s Office.
