Statement by Comptroller Brad Lander on Announcement by Mayor Adams & Governor Hochul on Task Force to Remove Ghost Cars from City Streets
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander released the following statement in response to Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul launching a multi-agency task force to remove “ghost cars”, in which license plates are obscured, from the streets of New York City:
“I’m glad to see the Governor and Mayor take action on a problem outlined in our recent audit of scofflaws obscuring their license plates to evade traffic penalties. As noted in our recent audit, cracking down on these ‘ghost cars’ will make our streets safer and could recoup the City over $100 million. We are pleased to mark this as implemented on our Audit Recommendations Tracker, as a result of the excellent work of our Audits team.”
