Statement Of New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer On Comcast Withdrawing Its Bid To Aquire Time Warner
“Comcast’s decision to abandon its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable only highlights the need for greater innovation and competition to improve internet service and close the digital divide in the City of New York. As our recent report showed, 27 percent (730,000) of New York City households lack broadband Internet at home. Millions more throughout the five boroughs suffer from high prices and slow speeds compared to other cities across the country and around the world. Going forward, the City must invest in broadband infrastructure to expand the power and possibility of our economy in the 21st century.”
