What to Know
- Social Security changed its policy again and will continue to allow identify verification over the phone. Beginning April 14, Social Security will perform “anti-fraud” checks for all claims made over the phone. For anyone that is flagged by the “anti-fraud” check, they will need to appear in person.
- Effective March 27, 2025, Social Security overpayments will be recouped by withholding 100% of monthly benefits, reversing the previous 10% cap under the Biden Administration.
- For those unable to afford full overpayment recovery, contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local office to request a reduced payment plan. You also have the right to appeal the overpayment decision or amount.
- HHS will eliminate the Administration for Community Living, a vital resource that helps older adults and people with disabilities remain in their communities by coordinating essential care and programs.
Note that these changes to Social Security do not apply to Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
