Local laws in New York City require agencies providing public and emergency services to provide public documents in 10 different languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Bengali, Haitian Creole, Korean, Arabic, French, Urdu, and Polish. Signs, posters, websites belonging to City agencies, should all be available in all 10 languages.
The law also requires city agencies to provide free interpretation services and to post multilingual signage on the availability of the services. Official letters from agencies to members of the public should also be available in all 10 languages.
