As investment advisor and custodian for the City’s public pension funds, Comptroller Lander stewards the retirement security of over 750,000 current and retired public sector workers, with a prudent, diversified, long-term approach to the City’s investments and obligations. Under Comptroller Lander’s leadership, three of the City’s funds have adopted a detailed plan to reach net zero emissions by 2040, among the most aggressive in the nation. The plan includes divesting from fossil fuels, engaging asset managers and portfolio companies toward decarbonization across the economy, and dramatically scaling up investments in climate solutions.

Jonathan Bailey, CFA

Jonathan Bailey, CFA, Managing Director, is the Global Head of Stewardship and Sustainable Investing at Neuberger Berman a private, independent employee-owned investment manager founded in 1939. Jonathan joined the firm in 2017 and has overall responsibility for how financially material environmental, social and governance factors are considered in investment processes and engagement activities. He also oversees the firm’s approach to sustainable and impact investing across asset classes. He spent the bulk of his prior career at McKinsey & Co, where he was an Associate Partner. Jonathan holds an MBA (with high distinction) from Harvard Business School, an MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and an MA(Oxon) from the University of Oxford. He has been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Jonathan is the Vice Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Investor Advisory Group.

Jonathan Garfinkel

Managing Partner and Co-Head of Private Equity, TPG Rise Climate

Jonathan Garfinkel is a Partner of TPG based in San Francisco, and a Managing Partner of TPG Rise Climate, the firm’s dedicated climate impact investing platform, where he is Co-Head of the private equity business. Jonathan joined TPG in 1998 and through 2010 predominantly worked on the TPG Capital private equity investment team in both San Francisco and London. Thereafter, he served in numerous firm-related roles, including leadership of corporate development and compensation, and was TPG’s Co-Chief Operating Officer from January 2019 to June 2021. Jonathan currently serves on the boards of Summit Carbon Solutions, Monolith, Beta Technologies (observer), Olympus Terminals, Elevated Materials, and Resources For The Future. He is on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he teaches the course Climate Finance in Private Markets. He also serves on the board of Stanford Healthcare and the Advisory Council of the Stanford Cancer Institute. Jonathan holds a BA in Economics from Stanford University, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an MA in Education from the Stanford Graduate School of Education.

Emma Henningsson

Emma Henningsson is a senior sustainability analyst at Swedish pension fund AP7. Emma works with AP7’s climate transition investment portfolio and with active ownership, as well as dialogue and evaluation of AP7’s external equities managers. With a background in environmental science, and experience in a variety of roles including CDP and Sustainalytics, Emma has been engaging with companies and investors on sustainability issues for over 15 years.

Monish Mahurkar

Before joining ARGA in 2022, Mr. Mahurkar worked in senior leadership positions for the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington D.C. for 10 years. As Vice President of Corporate Strategy & Resources, he led strategic initiatives including climate finance. As head of Client Solutions and Capital Markets, he led innovative finance including development of the green bond market. Mr. Mahurkar previously worked for over 25 years at global financial institutions Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, and Asian Development Bank in developed and emerging markets including New York, Mumbai, London, Tokyo and Manila. He holds an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and B.A. in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.
