Summer Internship Program

The New York City Comptroller’s office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently-elected citywide official, the Comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. The Office employs a workforce of 750 professional staff which includes: accountants, auditors, attorneys, information technology specialists, economists, engineers, budget, financial and investment analysts, claim specialists and researchers in addition to administrative and support staff.

The Comptroller’s Office is committed to providing a wide range of learning and work opportunities to students with an interest in public service.

Over the course of a nine-week internship program, interns will participate in hands-on departmental projects in their assigned bureau as well as an overall enrichment program that includes networking opportunities, professional development programming and community service activities.

Students are expected to work 28 hours a week on a Monday to Thursday schedule.

Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program for the Fall 2025 semester. Please note, undergraduate students who are graduating in the spring or summer of 2025 must provide proof of enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program for Fall 2025.

Work Assignments

A diverse array of work areas/Bureaus within the Comptroller’s Office offer summer internships, including but not limited to: Accountancy, Administration, Asset Management, Audit, Budget, Contract Administration, Engineering, General Counsel, Information Systems & Technology, Labor Law, Law & Adjustment, Public Affairs, Public Policy, and the Press Office. Work Location

Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building, 1 Centre St. Manhattan. All interns will work in-person in the office, Monday – Thursday, 28 hours per week.

Compensation

Undergraduate interns will receive an hourly salary in the range $17 – $18, based on college year level. Graduate and Law students will receive an hourly salary in the range $19.00 – $21, also based on year of study.

Program Term

The program period is from June 2 – July 31, 2025.

Application period for all other specialties/areas internship positions will begin on December 1, 2024 and end on February 28, 2025.
