HMI creates community, safety, and belonging for LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies between the ages of 13 and 24. Our work utilizes trauma-sensitive, strengths-based, positive youth development frameworks, and leverages liberation-focused practices, harm-reduction, sex and body positive, and youth empowerment approaches. The HMI model provides a foundation for the successful implementation of mental health and wellness programs inclusive of services that are designed specifically for youth experiencing poverty, homelessness, and housing instability, while also implementing programs that focus on school and academic success, college enrollment, job readiness, and youth leadership development.
