Comptroller Stringer Reactivates Online Voter Complaint Form for the Presidential Election
New Yorkers encouraged to visit www.comptroller.nyc.gov/electionday
(New York, NY) – Today, New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer reactivated his office’s online voter complaint form and encouraged New Yorkers who face any potential irregularities at the polls tomorrow to fill it out. Information collected will inform the Comptroller’s ongoing work on the Board of Elections, help pinpoint deficiencies, and guide recommendations.
On April 19th, after more than 125,000 Brooklyn voters were wiped from the voter rolls and New Yorkers across the five boroughs reported voting issues, Comptroller Stringer announced an audit of the Board of Elections’ operations. More than 600 individuals contacted the Comptroller’s Office to share stories of voting difficulties during that primary. The online complaint form was also used during the June Congressional Primary and the September State Primary.
“We will be closely watching the Board of Elections’ performance tomorrow and examining any irregularities. In our democracy, nothing is more sacred than the right to vote – and our audit is going to help ensure that we protect it. Any presidential contest is a giant stress test for a city’s electoral system, and we will be using Tuesday’s election to see if the BOE has learned anything from the fiasco earlier this year.
“That claims have been made about massive voter disenfranchisement and egregious mismanagement is absolutely alarming. This election will help us look under the hood at the BOE, figure out what’s going on, and pinpoint ways to address the root causes of the problem. The BOE must do better. That’s why I encourage all New Yorkers who have trouble voting to share their story with us. Whether you face long lines, encounter broken machines, or are told your name was wiped off the voter rolls, get in touch with us,” New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer said.
To contact the Comptroller’s office, New Yorkers can fill out a form at www.comptroller.nyc.gov/electionday. Residents who face irregularities are encouraged to also contact the Attorney General’s hotline at 800-771-7755 or civil.rights@ag.ny.gov.
