Statement from NYC Comptroller Scott M. Stringer on President Trump’s Plan to Pull Out of the Paris Agreement

May 31, 2017

“This Administration has once again put itself on the wrong side of history. Man-made climate change is real, the science is incontrovertible, and the threat to our planet is undeniable. The answer to those challenges cannot be rooted in flat-earther thinking – we cannot walk away from our obligations and pretend that reality doesn’t exist. And yet, that seems to be exactly what the Trump Administration seeks to do by walking away from the Paris Agreement. It puts our kids, our grandkids, and generations to come in jeopardy.

“To be clear, the shift to a low carbon economy is inevitable – it cannot and will not be stopped. We’re going to fight back, lead by example, and work towards a sustainable future in every capacity we can. If Washington works to turn back the clock on the environment, cities like New York will continue to stand up and protect it.”
