Statement Of New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer On Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2016 State Of The State Address

Governor Cuomo has outlined a strong, progressive vision for how to tackle many of our state’s most pressing needs and challenges. I stand shoulder to shoulder with the Governor in the fight for a $15 minimum wage and the enactment of paid family leave, two policies that can and will lift all New Yorkers. I applaud the Governor’s vision to support small businesses, pass ethics reform, expand opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses and encourage the development of alternative energy sources.

Homeless shelters are our invisible city. I will work with my fellow Comptrollers, as well as our partners in City and State government, to continue to audit and investigate our shelters in a comprehensive way and ensure they are safe for our most vulnerable citizens. Increased state support is critical to addressing this challenge.

As always, my office will be carefully reviewing the proposed budget and will present testimony in Albany later this month.
