Notable Accomplishments of 2024

Public Affairs accelerated the office’s work on disability rights and launched projects to promote greater accessibility for City residents.  

Workers' Rights launched the Exploitative Employer Dashboard and Employer Wall of Shame, a tool for workers, city agencies, news organizations, organizers, and others to learn about violations committed by private employers in NYC. 

Public Finance issued the Third Annual Social Bond, the highest amount to date, making further headway in catching up on capital spending reimbursement.  

Climate advanced Public Solar NYC, winning $37.5 million dollars in federal grants for implementation, laying the groundwork for the design and implementation of a new, innovative rooftop solar program for 1-4 family homes, with a focus on low-income communities and the creation of high-quality jobs. 

Audit released several impactful reports in 2024.  These are the result of thoughtful and collaborative selection of topics and a concerted effort by bureau staff to focus on measuring outcomes that matter to the public, including the first two NYCHA audits which flowed from the adoption of the Participatory Auditing Framework in 2023.    

Bureau of Asset Management saw annual investment returns of 10%, exceeding the 7% assumed rate of return, while still successfully advocating for board and employee diversity, workers' rights, clean energy financing disclosures, ethical AI, and enhanced worker protections through shareholder proposals 

Labor Law was successful in settling a number of prevailing wages cases, including litigation on behalf of MTA subway cleaners, and against Winston Support Services in the amount of $2.7 million 

Budget released the Agency Staffing dashboard which enables transparency through the clear visualization of historical trends  

Bureau of Law and Adjustment published a pamphlet entitled “Filing a Claim with the New York City Comptroller” that is available online and in print. The pamphlet has been made available online in Spanish, Chinese, French, Arabic, Bangla, Haitian-Creole, Korean, Polish, Russian, and Urdu. 

Policy & Organizing coordinated three congestion pricing lawsuits in response to Governor Hochul's unlawful pause, leveraging and strengthening relationships with external allies and winning a binding settlement to implement congestion pricing by January 5th.
