Charting Homelessness in NYC

Exits from Shelters

Average number of individuals per month placed from shelter with rental assistance.

These data are published quarterly as annual cumulative totals. Here they are converted to average monthly placements to compare current-year progress against prior years.

An array of City programs help individuals and families to move out of shelter into permanent and stable housing. In April 2019 the City created City FHEPS to replace LINC, SEPS, and CITYFEPS rental assistance programs, with the hope that a single program would make it easier for people to get help, easier for landlords to get payments, and easier for NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) to manage cases.
