Statement by New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer on Derek Chauvin Verdict

“Today’s verdict offers a measure of accountability for the family of George Floyd, the city of Minneapolis, and a nation that has marched, protested and cried out for justice.

“But today’s outcome must be a beginning, not an end. A justice system that systematically harms Black lives is fundamentally broken.

“My heart remains with the loved ones of George Floyd and the communities across the country who refused to rest until a measure of justice was served. Tomorrow, we get back to work.”
